There has been plenty of chatter about the stock market lately.
I know people who refresh their brokerage apps a dozen times a day.
It makes me wonder: What if we checked our personal stock prices with the same frequency?
Imagine you had a dashboard for the different roles you play in life. You could have a ticker symbol for each:
- $DAD (or $MOM)
- $LEADER
- $PARTNER
- $FRIEND
- $CREATOR
You could also track your personal stock price on the attributes you value most, which might include:
- $COMPASSION
- $LISTENING
- $KINDNESS
- $PATIENCE
- $HEALTH
Many of us know where the S&P 500 is trading today, but we often have no idea if our relationship or values capital is crashing or hitting an all-time high.
Consider tracking your personal indices daily to boost visibility and get ahead of things that may need attention.
Market Volatility
Just like the market, our personal stock prices fluctuate. When a financial stock crashes, the best investors don’t panic. They see a buying opportunity. They know that buying low leads to the greatest gains.
Yet, when our personal stock crashes—when we feel like we are failing as a parent or a leader—we tend to do the opposite. We sell. We withdraw. We beat ourselves up.
We need to start “buying the dip” in our own lives.
When your stock is down, that is the specific moment to invest heavily.
- $PARTNER is down? Invest immediately with a date night or a heartfelt note.
- $LEADER is sliding? Invest time in listening to your team or offering unexpected praise.
- $KINDNESS has dipped? Invest energy into embodying this crucial value.
The lower the price, the higher the upside potential of your immediate action.
The Power of Compounding
We often think we need a massive “IPO moment”—a grand gesture or a total life overhaul—to fix things. But wealth, both financial and emotional, is built through consistent, small deposits.
A 5-minute uninterrupted conversation. A quick text of encouragement. Putting your phone away during dinner.
These are small investments. But over time, they compound into a massive portfolio of trust, respect, and love.
Your Daily Ticker
Try this for the next week. Before you check the headlines or your retirement account, check your personal ticker.
Ask yourself: “Where are my most important stock prices today?”
If it’s high, pay a dividend—share that energy with others. If it’s low, don’t panic. Just start buying.
To your creative success…
